The brainchild of a wonderfully warped musical mind, Cairo Knife Fight comprises drummer/vocalist/bassist/keyboardist/loop-artist NICK GAFFANEY and an evolving cast of musicians.
After several years (and several singles / EPS) as a 2-piece with long-time crony Aaron Tokona (Weta, Ahoribuzz), the collaborative boundaries of Cairo Knife Fight expanded around the creation of 2015’s album “The Colossus”, with input from the likes of prolific NZ composer Joel Haines, local dub/funk icon Laughton Kora, American rock legend Mark Lanegan and more.
Following “The Colossus”, Gaffaney enlisted current collaborator and Grammy Award-winning guitarist/songwriter/producer GEORGE PAJON JR. In addition to his role as a musician & songwriter for the Black Eyed Peas, Pajon’s name can be found on credits for the likes of Carlos Santana, Sting, Kelis, Damien Marley and many more.
With an aim to redefine what two musicians can accomplish on stage, live performances by the duo bring together elements of metal, prog, funk, industrial and hard rock, layering Gaffaney’s hard hitting beats, live loops and soaring vocals with Pajon’s incendiary riffs and vast guitar soundscapes.
Cairo Knife Fight released their anthemic rock opus “Seven” in 2017 (gaining nominations for the Best Rock Album & Best Cover Art VNZMAs) before relocating to LA, where the pair are working on their next release.
Since forming, the band has supported Shihad, Queens of the Stone Age, Gomez, Them Crooked Vultures and Foo Fighters through their New Zealand tours.
